The Rebrand

This blog will be phased out soon.

I posted on Bluesky on December 30th that my personal goal for 2025 was to fully remove Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp), Google (Gmail, YouTube, Blogger, etc), and Amazon from my life by the end of the year. Still figuring out where to set up shop. In the meantime, i've started a Linktree so people can find whatever services i'm migrating to, as i still don't know where i'm setting up shop. Maybe Substack? I don't know.

I did put the link to this blog on the Linktree. I thought about changing the URL to riotleviathan instead of the obsolete drducks, to match everything else that i've updated in the last year. But really, what's the point? It's going away anyway, why break all the old links that might still be floating around out there? And if i'm not writing anything new in this blog, these are really Dr. Ducks's thoughts, not Riot Leviathan's, anyway.

Anyway. If anyone is actually finding this blog through the Linktree, please keep in mind that i was 23 when i started it in 2008. I sincerely doubt that anyone will read through everything i've written here, but if you do find yourself clicking back to anything older than, let's say, seven-ish years, just keep in mind that i was a very different person back then and i don't stand by much of what was written back then. I removed one entry entirely but i'm not going to go through 17 years worth of material to remove everything i find objectionable at this point.

Actually, i don't stand by that Star Wars one from 2020 anymore, either. Plus there's some more recent stuff in here i wrote while i was high, so, uh. Umm.

Really, the only thing here that i want to call any attention to is the Long Beach Marathon 2022 blog. I still think that one's pretty good. All of my other blogs (travel blogs The 39,000 Steps and Kiwiland, Ho!, the Amanda's Cancer Journey archive, my mixtape blog Trevor's Poor-Ass Christmas, and anything salvageable from the various one-off goof accounts i've created here over the years) will be moving as well.

Anyway. See you on a slightly-less-evil platform sometime in the future.

Nonfiction Three

It was 8:30 pm in my time zone, 9:30 in his. I held the phone in my hand, debating if I should do this, predicting his first reaction. After all, who calls people? No, I thought, this is important. It’s Saturday, it should be fine.

Drew picked up before the second ring, panic in his voice. “Hey man, what’s going on?”

After our brief conversation, he would message me on Discord, “"You just gave me the quintessential millennial event. You called me and I immediately was filled with dread that something terrible had happened."

“Hey man, what’s going on?”

“We just watched the Watcher video about which inedible objects people would like to eat, and I need to know your top five.”

“…”

“…”

“...I’m in the middle of a tabletop gaming session right now, but I absolutely want to have this conversation and will get back to you as soon as I can.”

Long Beach Marathon 2022 Index

I've finally finished editing my Long Beach Marathon 2022 journal from October! The original version was 30,355 words, which is ridiculous, so i've cut it all the way down to, uh, 28,126 words for your reading enjoyment!

Still working on the video, but i'm sure it's coming soon. I'm, uh, a little worried that will basically become a feature-length documentary.

I figured i'd post this index after the rest of the entries, since it will appear before them on the home page of the blog.

Long Beach Marathon 2022: The Following Monday

October 17, 2022

We did it.

We finally fucking did it.

They sent me ahead to scout it while they finished up with some laundry and animal tasks.

I got changed. I walked down the stairs.

I tested it.

I sent back three texts.

"HOT TUB HOT"

"JETS GO BOOOOSSSHHHH"

[PHOTO OF MY LOWER HALF SUBMERGED IN BUBBLY WATER]

We sat in that hot tub for six hours while we researched candidates and propositions on the ballot next month, so we can actually be prepared to vote instead of figuring everything out the night before again like we have the last couple times.

We still haven't gone for another run. Alyssa is planning to take a full month off. I wanted a week, but since i'm working the rest of this week and into next, i haven't wanted to start again yet anyway.

We took advantage of early bird pricing, and signed up for
